Jane Longden
Founder,ECF

Just 1 mile over the Massachusetts border in Brookline , NH you will find a special team of talented craftsmen dedicated to offering high quality interior and exterior products under one roof.   From custom milled lumber to casually elegant reclaimed wood farm tables and custom furniture, you can find it all now in one location. Both Tom Bingham, owner, and Jane Longden, ECF founder, thought long ago that a union of this sort would not only be one of the first, but also a great convenience for homeowners and industry tradesmen to have under one roof. In Fall of 2017 we made it happen and are thrilled at what the future holds for this  long time  family run business.

Tom Bingham a.k.a. “Coach”. Awarded MIAA coach of the        year award , 2016

Having been in the business for 71 years, Tom Bingham’s family is no stranger to  large inventories of old [and new] wood and the demands required for commercial and residential applications.  From flooring, to reclaimed wood wall panels,  Bingham lumbers heated 25,000 sq. ft. retail lumber yard [attached to the restored 18th century showroom-barn]  is just part of his 9 acre multiple building operation which  has long since been  a primary resource for designers, architects and contractors. Despite his extremely busy schedule running the mill, Tom has coached football at St. Barnards high school in Fitchburg, Ma. for the past 20 years.     http://www.binghamlumber.com/

Being eco-friendly is not a new concept for Ecustomfinishes. The company has been in operation since 2003 specializing in the building and finishing of custom reclaimed wood furniture. “Using water based products is not a new thing for us nor is using old wood to create beautiful furniture. Instead, time has been spent refining our eco-friendly finishes and creative designs that are casually elegant, very functional, and extremely low maintenance. We are amongst the first pioneers when it comes to working with eco-friendly products and reclaimed wood furniture”.  Having grown up in old homes for most of her life and being very “hand’s-on”, Jane has spent the last 17 years developing the skills, hunting for domestic resources and finding talent that would lead her to the creation of New England’s foremost reclaimed wood furniture companies in the North East. Fortunate to have found a highly talented and committed group of artists and craftsmen, Ecustomfinishes operates like a well-oiled machine. Regardless of the order, custom or otherwise , orders are completed in 11  weeks from the date the  order is placed depending on the time of year.

A far stretch from her 21 year career in human services,  Jane frequently gets asked how she ended up doing this sort of business.   You will often hear her say she has been one of the luckier people in the world having loved both her first and second careers and made the leap without a great deal of reservation.  Jane segued into her new career after an opportunity (she reluctantly agreed to) to sell old wood furniture. What was most notable to Jane was the interest people had in the reclaimed old barn wood tables, occasional tables and simple, hand crafted old wood furniture. While the world was turning to China in the late 90’s for inexpensive, imported products, Jane held on to the belief that she could make a good business on her own selling domestically built reclaimed wood furniture. “It wasn’t always easy but failure was not an option” for the single mother of 2 young children. She set out on a long journey which led, years later, to a time where reclaimed wood products are in extreme demand.

“Regardless of what the trend may be at the time, people always seem to  come back to simple, classic lines which is the essence of what we do. Charming old wood compares to a classic black dress; Simply put, it will never go out of style, you can dress it up or down and it always looks good. There is no other furniture line that offers such sustainable long lasting value .  Each and every piece of reclaimed wood we build from is a way to bring  American History and American workmanship into your home.”
